Mowing Tips
- Do not scalp your lawn! When grass is severely cut back the growth of the roots and plant comes almost to a complete stop until the leaves can recover.
- As soon as your lawn grows in the spring allow it to grow one third taller than its optimum height. Then cut it back by no more than one-third to bring it back to its optimum height.
- Dull mower blades shred the grass, leaving a ragged cut at the top of the blade, which gives the lawn a whitish, diseased appearance.
- Try not to cut grass when its wet. This is because the cut tends to be very uneven, the clippings clog the mower deck.
Myths, Facts & Good Advice
Myth:Always mow to the recommended height.
Fact: Not if the lawn grew fast and doing so would remove more than a third of its height
Advice:During a lawn's peak growth period, you might have to mow several times a week. If the lawn gets past you, raise the mowing height and mow. Wait three or four days and mow again at the normal height.
